Once
upon a time in the city of Edo.There was an
"Omaturi" (Japanese Festival). During the
festival, it was blowing very very hard. The wind made
the dust and the sand of the city Edo rise and it got in
to people's eyes. The sand and the dust were harmful to
people's eyes. Because it was harmful, people
got an eye disease and later many people lost their eye
sight. In those days, in the city of Edo, people didn't have anything to do but to play the "shamisen" when they didn't have their eye sight so many people who couldn't see bought many shamisens. To make the shamisens they used the skin of a cat, so many cats disappeared from the city. With the cats disappearing, the rats started to gain number and those rats started to eat the oke (Jaspanese wooden bucket). They ate most of the oke in the city. Oke became short and every one started buying it. Then the Oke Sellers got
rich. |
