Ningen Banji Saiou ga Uma

(One can never know what will prove
to be lucky or unlucky)

Once upon a time, one old man lived near the Chinese Northern
Fort.
Once the old man's horse took refuge in the next town, so people went to the old man's house to console him in his sorrow, but he didn't mind it at all because he thought it wasn't necessarily bad.
After a few months, the horse took good horse back from the other town, however the old man wasn't necessarily happy just because of it. He was not glad of it a bit.
In the meantime, the old man's son had a fall from the old man's horse and at last,he went lame because he broke his leg. People also went to his house to console him in his sorrow at that time.
However, the old man didn't feel sad at all because he thought it might bring happy.
After one year, the war against next country started and most young boys were killed. But the son was safe because he didn't go to war because of his handicap.
As the proverb said, happiness and badluck come alternately,
and nobody knows the future.
